FORWARD PARTY ENDORSES NO GERRYMANDERING VIRGINIA
HOSTING VIRTUAL INFO SESSION ON MARCH 25, 7 PM
The Forward Party in Virginia is proud to endorse No Gerrymandering Virginia in its effort to protect fair representation and uphold the integrity of Virginia’s electoral system. We believe, as they do, that gerrymandering in any state – by any party – undermines our democracy. If our state’s Congressional Districts can be redrawn this year at the behest of one party, then they can be redrawn at any time, by any party, for any reason. That is wrong and undemocratic.
At the heart of the Forward Party’s mission is the belief that voters should choose their representatives — not the other way around. Virginians voted overwhelmingly in 2020 to end partisan gerrymandering. The proposed referendum Virginians will vote on this April will upend the system approved by more than 60% of Virginia voters. Ending partisan gerrymandering is essential to restoring trust in our democratic institutions, reducing political extremism, and creating incentives for leaders to serve the broad public rather than narrow partisan interests.
No Gerrymandering Virginia’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and fair map-drawing aligns directly with Forward’s core priorities: electoral reform, competitive elections, and a political system that rewards collaboration over division. When district lines are manipulated for partisan gain, it entrenches polarization and weakens the voice of citizens. Fair processes, by contrast, strengthen democracy and create space for pragmatic, problem-solving leadership. The definition of fairness does not change with the political party in power in Richmond. Democracy works best when it works for everyone. Protecting fair representation is not a partisan issue – it is an American one. That is why we stand with No Gerrymandering Virginia in ensuring that electoral rules are not altered for short-term political advantage. We encourage all Virginians who value accountability and fair competition to support this important effort.
