Hello, I’m Vell Rives, and I’m currently running for Arlington School Board, and I’m proud to be endorsed by the Forward Party in Virginia. I’ve been part of the Forward movement for three years, and Forward is such a natural fit for me. One reason is Forward’s commitment to some pretty basic principles: Respect for the Constitution, for our laws, and for democratic norms — things that used to go without saying — that are crucial for a functioning democracy. Another part of Forward that especially resonates with me is the emphasis on collaboration and finding solutions. That’s how I want to operate. I want to be a problem-solver! To me, that means we get past partisan purity and rivalry and instead, look at the issues in front of us and figure out what can work. Not, “What is the party supposed to think about this?” but, “What can we actually do about it? What’s worked before? What’s worked in other places?” |

Forward doesn’t have a party line that we all subscribe to. But there is a Forward party attitude! And you see it when you talk with people involved with Forward here in Northern Virginia. We’re not all alike. We don’t agree on everything. But we care about our communities, we pay attention to what’s happening, and we want government to move beyond the partisan battles and get stuff done. It’s really refreshing, and it encourages me to keep at it.
So if you’ve been thinking about getting involved with Forward, come on in and join us! I think you’re going to meet some good, thoughtful people who want to break through partisan inertia and move things Forward. And if you live in Arlington, please vote for me, James Vell Rives, for Arlington School Board.
