David Sisson was endorsed by Forward for Arlington County Board. Why? Read the message below  - then volunteer to help him. 

My name is David Sisson, and I am an Independent candidate for Arlington County Board. I am proud to accept the Forward Party of Virginia’s endorsement because it stands for something I believe our politics desperately needs: putting voters first and bringing a problem-solving mentality back to government.

Two principles in the Forward Party’s pledge especially resonate with me:

1. Support and strengthen democracy by elevating the voters’ voice.

2. Encourage candidates and legislators to work with others with a problem-solving mentality.

To me, those principles represent a back-to-basics approach to democracy.

One political party dominates our local government here in Arlington, VA. That is not how a healthy democracy should work. Democracy should mean competition among candidates and ideas. It should mean open debates where elected officials have to defend their positions and know that voters can hold them accountable.

Right now, Arlington does not work that way.

A small fraction of registered Democrats in the Democratic primary determine who will represent the entire community on the County Board. I believe we can do better.

I have always believed that the best policy is not necessarily the policy that makes everyone happy, but the policy that everyone can live with.

Compromise does not mean abandoning your principles. It means recognizing we will not always agree and finding solutions in spite of that. Those solutions are more likely to stand the test of time and reduce community animosity. 

We will only achieve that if we return power to the voters and hold politicians accountable again. I believe the Forward Party offers the best path to pursuing electoral reforms that increase accountability and electing candidates who will collaborate, solve problems, and deliver results instead of simply scoring partisan points.

I am proud to work with anyone, regardless of party, who believes in giving power back to the people, encouraging competition of ideas, and pursuing practical reforms that make government more accountable and effective.
