A government shutdown is not a show of strength or principle. It is partisan politics getting in the way of good government — and in Virginia, the cost is especially high.
Our Commonwealth is home to one of the largest concentrations of federal workers, contractors, and military families in the nation. From Northern Virginia to Hampton Roads, a shutdown means lost paychecks, furloughs, delayed contracts, and real uncertainty for families who serve our country every day. Small businesses, restaurants, and local economies that depend on those workers will feel the impact immediately.
Virginia Forward supports leaders who put people above politics — leaders who solve problems, honor commitments, and deliver results. Congress’s most basic duty is to fund the government and keep essential services running. When politicians choose stalemate over solutions, it’s Virginians — working families, small businesses, veterans, and our communities — who pay the price.
That’s why our candidate, Brandon Givens (Fairfax’s House of Delegates District 11) is hosting a community town hall to bring people together across political divides, hear directly from Virginians, and discuss practical ways to protect jobs and keep our communities strong.

Shutdowns are not leadership. They are a betrayal of public trust. If any one of us failed to do our job, we would be held accountable. Our elected leaders should be no different. They work for you.
Virginians deserve better. It’s time to put people before politics and get our government — and our communities — back to work.
